Brunei - in the Lap of Luxury!

How about a visit to one of the world's richest nations? Although it's only tiny, having a total area of just 5,770 sq km, Brunei has one of the highest per capita GDPs in the less developed countries.

The Sultanate of Brunei's heyday occurred between the 15th and 17th centuries, when its control extended over coastal areas of northwest Borneo and the southern Philippines. In the 18th century, Brunei entered a period of decline brought on by internal strife over royal succession, colonial expansion of European powers and piracy.

In 1888, Brunei became a British protectorate and remained under the wing of the British until independence was granted in 1984. Much of Brunei's current wealth is the result of its extensive petroleum and natural gas fields.

The same family has now ruled in Brunei for over six centuries.

If you visit Brunei, be prepared for a typical tropical climate of hot, humid and rainy weather. You can check the weather forecast here: http://www.brunet.bn/gov/dca/bms/today.htm
