New Year Resolutions For Your Career

New Years resolutions are a popular way to plan for the upcoming year and to make improvements in our lives.

Whether or not we actually follow through on them is another story of course.

Here are several New Years Resolutions for your career that should ensure you get the year started on the right track.

Dust off your resume.

I always suggest keeping your resume up to date in case you need to make quick use of it by applying for a job that suddenly arises that you are interested in. Ideally you want to have an updated resume ready to go that simply requires tweaking for the specific job rather than having to do a complete rewrite and still meet the job application deadline.

Think of one skill that youd like to improve in the New Year and figure out your plan to achieve it.

Perhaps you want to improve your presentation skills by taking a presentation skills training course. Maybe you want to improve your networking skills and meet new people who can positively influence your career. You might want to learn a second language for personal or business reasons. Think of a skill that youd like to work on and then decide how to go about improving it.

Stop using your work email address to forward chain emails.

Dont gain a reputation for someone who wastes your time and other peoples time by forwarding those silly chain emails with your work email address. With more companies monitoring emails that are sent and received on their servers, dont give your employer written proof that you are a slacker.

Join a gym.

Or start taking part in some other athletic activity to ensure that you pay proper attention to your health. Certainly, taking time out for athletic endeavours can help to keep your mind and body fresh and can provide a nice outlet for stress, too. Plus you can work off all the food you ate during the holidays!

Whatever you do, think of a few New Years resolutions for your career and see them through to completion. Start with an easy one and then work on the more difficult ones.

My name is Carl Mueller and I'd like to thank you for learning a bit more about me!

I feel that I have numerous relevant experiences during my career that come in useful when helping people with their careers:

I know what it?s like to work internationally, having worked overseas (in New Zealand, from 1994-1998).

I've survived several corporate downsizings while many of my colleagues were being laid off.

I have also experienced being laid off twice myself during corporate downsizings.

I know what it?s like to be self-employed.

I've helped many people find better jobs. I started to work as a professional recruiter in 2000 first as an Information Technology (IT) recruiter and then in general recruitment across many industries including IT, manufacturing and marketing. Since this time, I have helped many people find their dream career and it?s a great feeling.

I experienced one of the slowest hiring periods in recent memory especially during the general hiring slowdown that followed the Y2K frenzy in 1999, the bursting of the dot com bubble in early 2000, and then the employment market bottoming out following September 11, 2001.

These were certainly not great times to be a job searcher in most industries nor was it a particularly good time to be a recruiter.

Following this, I began running the day to day operations of an Internet-based company in early 2003 that focused on developing online software and subscription-based websites for consumers. It was then that I fully realized the power, usefulness and potential of the Internet which really spurred me to set up my own website which you can view in my Personal URL section below this bio.

I?m also a Platinum Ezine Articles Expert as recognized by EzineArticles.com, one of the most visited websites on the Internet. This special designation is earned by having consistently high-quality articles published and viewed on their website. All of my submissions are related to helping you find your dream career and many of my articles get reproduced on other websites by their webmasters.

Good luck with your career and I hope I have been of assistance to you!
