Home Based Marketing Consultant Myth Exposed: Why Making Money And Getting Clients Is Actually Easy

One of the biggest myths of running a home business as a marketing consultant -- other than the myth that you need an advanced business degree or lots of money to make it work -- is that you'll go crazy trying to get appointments just to meet with prospective clients.

This probably comes from the horror stories people have of cold calling businesses only to get some snotty secretary who hangs up at the first inkling of a clue that it's a sales man and not a customer or someone important.

But here's the thing:

You can start a home business as a marketing consultant today if you want, and completely bypass the "gatekeeper" issue, simply by following the advice I'm about to give you in this article.

Listen: Simple as it sounds, it all comes down to choosing your customers wisely.

You see, I haven't confronted the gatekeeper issue a lot because of the target market I'm recommending you go to -- which is small businesses making less than a million dollars per year.

Let me explain:

When we (meaning myself or the tele-marketer I have do it for me) make phone calls to the target market we're in, we're usually getting the business owner on the phone. There is no gatekeeper. They're too small. The owner is the guy answering the phone and returning calls.

And so the issue rarely ever comes up.

But there are still going to be times when we do have to deal with some sort of call screener, and when that happens, there's actually a very easy and painless way of dealing with it.

How?

Easy: You send him a postcard or you send him a newsletter or you send him part of a book you've written -- basically something you can mail.

And that helps to get past the gatekeeper because you're mailing it right to the business owner. And then you simply follow-up with a phone call after he's read what you sent him. That way you are not a total stranger and he's much more likely to want to talk with you.

This whole gatekeeper thing is just one of the many misconceptions about starting a home business as a marketing consultant. Everyone seems to think it's this hard, advanced business that you need 10 years of college and a slick salesman's mindset to make happen.

When in fact, it's actually very easy to get into, easy to learn enough about to get started very fast, and easy to make money with. Even if you have no experience, no skills and little money right now.

And the above is just one of many examples that proves it.
