Originally, the idea for the telescope was developed in 1946, but the project was delayed because of resources and budget constraints.

After 2010, it is thought that the Hubble telescope will reenter the Earths atmosphere. By 2013, a descendant space telescope known as the James Webb will be launched, but it is only limited to observing via infrared limited compared to the capabilities of the Hubble space telescope.

Despite several other groundbreaking instruments with higher resolutions, nothing has beaten the sensitivity of the Hubble space telescope with regards its discernible wavelengths.
